Storm Assault Star Force Series Book 8 eBook B V Larson
This series is excellent the whole way through. Whenever you think a rhythm has been established, it evolves into a new situation with clever implications. The writing is fast paced but not simplistic. The plots are sometimes cliche, but they shift around so fast that they aren't predictable or boring. It's not deep philosophy or dense reading, but it is extremely creative and has a consistent treatment of the futuristic technologies.Caveats
(1) Books 1-9 are excellent and end at a logical stopping point. Books 10-12 are pale imitations that can be skipped without missing anything. I didn't hate the last 3, but they are disappointing after the brilliance of the first 9. The first 9 are better left unblemished with an anticlimactic sequel trilogy.
(2) There is some mild implicit sexism. It doesn't get in the way of the good parts of the books, but it is there. Every female character is described in terms of her attractiveness when first introduced. All women are either objects of desire, incompetent under pressure, or schemers. The men, by contrast, are portrayed with much more variety in personality and role. Women are never insulted explicitly, but the characterization is still pretty consistent and unfortunate.

Storm Assault Star Force Series Book 8 eBook B V Larson Reviews
I have been reading this series right from the beginning and I picked this book up as soon as it came available and started reading it at once. I wasn't disappointed. I was again immersed in Kyle Riggs world and felt right at home. This is fine addition to the story line. It concludes some plot points and it leaves so many different ways that the story can go from here. I am very anxious to see what the author has in mind.
I will say that there are still some editing problems that can take the reader right out of the flow but the story quickly brings you back in. I am having some problems with the Miklos and Sarin characters. I can't really put my finger on it but they both bother me and I think there may be some mischief from them in future books.
All I can say is that I know that whatever happens I'll be there to read about it because I will be buying all following books as soon as they come out.
In Storm Assault, the seventh book of the Star Force Series, the story picks up where the sixth one left off Kyle Riggs, a victim of an attempted assassination that claimed his girlfriend's life, must decide how to navigate between his desire for revenge or moderating the military political challenges posed by several alien races. This is more potato chips & dip -- a snack you enjoy on occasion but isn't chocolate covered strawberries (simple and straightforward, but nothing more).
The best part about number seven -- we finally get to see Riggs go after his human arch enemy Crow. This is something that has been due for two or three books now! If you liked the last few installments, this is more of the same -- the story advances reasonably well in terms of storyline and plot. The usual characters (Riggs, Marvin, Sandra, Kwan) progress minimally but we get some insight into the post-Sandra world here. There is a new weapon from the gas aliens, which makes for an nice addition here -- the author does fine ways to keep things interesting.
Read it -- break out the chips and snack away. Don't look for too much depth -- for the money, it's a great value.
B.V. Larson writes beautifully. The plot lines in the entire Star Force series quickly engage your attention, and if you think this is another ho-hum series about war against machines, you will be mistaken and wildly surprised.
He writes with profound clarity of thought; his characters are so well-defined you are saddened when one of them is lost.
The editing is superbly done...what a pleasure it was to read every book in the series without grimacing over errors!
I literally could not put my reader down once I began. Each book was like sitting down to a feast. I cannot compliment this work enough; I loved it. I have become an instant fan and will read everything he has written--including every book he writes in future.
I thank the author for a marvel of science fiction in the finest tradition. I speak with authority because I spent my youth consuming the pulp fiction sci-fi of the very early forties--wherein the Martians were always green men with bad tempers.
Later, I actually taped every episode of Captain Kirk and the glorious adventures of The Enterprise...and, after all this time, a writer of truly stern stuff finally appears on the scene!

When the nano ships come, I hope B.V. Larson gets to take the tests. His brand of imagination is going to be needed to save the world. I remember starting this story with Swarm and thinking it wouldn't amount to much, but boy was I wrong. It has been one hell of a rollercoaster ride, and appearently it's not going to end with a wimper. The thing that grabs my imagination and attention so much is his impeccable character and situation development. How is Riggs going to pull the fat out of the fire? Who's going to rise to the occassion and do the impossible? And just as importantly, who or what is going to go wrong at the most inappropriate time? This saga in my opinion has everything, comedy to the point of laughing out loud, utter devastation and desperation at times, and the resoursefulness of an absolute hero doing what has to be done at just the right moment. The picture that he paints reads more like future history than fiction, and I have thoughly enjoyed every word he has written on the subject. If you like military fiction and over the top adventure, this book and series is for you. Give it a try. End of shameless plug transmission...
